OIT periodically requires network authentication in order to provide a safe network for all CU Boulder network users. Due to the upgrading of network authentication hardware, users of CU Boulder networks will need to register when they first connect to the affected networks starting Monday, August 3. The affected networks include the UCB Wireless and Eduroam wireless networks, and the Resnet wired network.
Starting August 3, owners of affected devices will notice:
- a network registration page will automatically open upon using a web browser (e.g. Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Internet Explorer, etc.) when trying to connect to the affected networks;
- you may need to open an off-campus website — one that starts with http: and not https: (e.g. http://neverssl.com) — in order to prompt the registration page to open;
- many programs (including Microsoft Outlook and Apple Mail) will not connect and function properly until a web browser is opened and the device owner registers;
- your CU Boulder username and IdentiKey password must be entered on the network registration page before connecting to the aforementioned networks.
Headless systems — computers and devices that operate without a monitor, keyboard or mouse (e.g. printers, gaming systems, etc.) — should not be affected by the resumption of network registration as these devices are generally allowed on the network without authentication.
If you have questions about network registration or ever experience issues connecting to the campus networks, please contact the IT Service Center at oithelp@colorado.edu or call 303-735-4357.
