Delay macOS 11 Big Sur upgrade

Submitted by stauffeg on

As is usually the case when new operating systems are first released, there are incompatibilities with a number of widely used applications. The newly released macOS 11 (Big Sur) is no exception and for this reason OIT recommends putting off upgrading Apple devices until key incompatibilities are resolved.

OIT has been testing the new operating system while it was in early-release status and has found numerous incompatibilities with OIT-supported software. OIT has published a Big Sur Release Information page with more details about known issues and we’ll continue to update it as we learn more. Mac systems that are enrolled in Dedicated Desktop Support (DDS) will temporarily be prevented from upgrading as OIT works to resolve significant compatibility issues.

To stay up-to-date on recommended operating systems, please visit the Software Lifecycle page. If you have questions about Big Sur or OIT’s recommendation, please contact the IT Service Center at oithelp@colorado.edu or call 303-735-4357.
